Austim or PDD?

Hi all, My newphew is 27 months old and is not talking.  When I say
not talking he has no words at all. I really can’t even catch constant
sounds at all.  He use to say ball and mama, but that is gone.  He’s
developmentally fine in all other areas, but his speech. He can
understand commands and points to pictures when asked or body parts.

He does have some intense tantrums, for instance when someone takes
away his trains. He also has instances when he will just cry for no
reason.

We thought he might have some hearing loss because he often seems to
ignore people when they are talking to him.  But a month ago, he had
his hearing tested and they said his hearing is fine.

At this time he was seen by a speech pathologist.  She said that he
was saying TWO WORDS!  She said that he has his own language and that
if he is trying to say "big ball" it sounds like "g all".  I have
never ever heard of such a thing.  His own mother can’t even
understand him and the speech pathologist is saying he’s talking?!  So
his mother thinks he is fine, b/c the SP said he was.

What is your take on this?

mmr jag

people should have a choice about the mmr  vaccine if there is any
doubt of side affects from this vaccine then surely we have the right
to choose what we give our children.

Thimerosal and Autism?

For those of you with online access to this month’s issue of
Pediatrics, I highly, highly recommend this commentary. One of the
best, most succinct articles on the issue of thimerosal and autism I
have ever read.

MMR Government lie

"The safety evidence [for the MMR vaccine] is so overwhelming that health
professionals should have no hesitation in recommending the use of this
vaccine."–Dr Miller Head , Immunisation Division, Public Health Laboratory
Service, Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre, London NW9 5EQ

Department of Health insists no child has ever died from MMR.
BUT At least two deaths paid out on MMR:
The VDPU (Government vaccine damage payment unit), has made a payment to the
parents of Hannah Buxton, who died of a massive fit after receiving MMR at
18 months. The parents of Chloe Dwyer, who died of Guillaine-Barre syndrome
after receiving her first MMR at four-and-half, also secured a payment.

Parvovirus B19 (fifth's disease) during pregnancy

I am interested to know if anyone has tested positive for parvovirus B19
during pregnancy and how your doctor treated it.

My sister tested positive and has been having sonograms every two weeks for
six weeks now. Just this week the doctor seemed to think the baby now has
parvovirus.

Thanks,

Advice Please: Saliva Collection in 22mo

I need to collect 5mL of my son’s saliva at 1:00 a.m.  Our doctor’s office
gave us a sterile cup and a syringe (minus the needle) to use for
collection.

Operation Spit Specimen failed miserably.

Does anyone have any tips on collecting his saliva in sufficient amounts?

What we tried: I slipped into his room and tried to collect a sample by
finding his drool pocket while he slept.  There was only a fine mist in
the syringe when I removed it.  Next I tried to waken him enough to "make
bubbles".  DH came in and we tried the "spit in the cup like Daddy"
(having picked up a second sterile cup for training purposes). After 35
minutes, we realized we didn’t even have 0.5 mL much less 5 mL.

I am hoping to find some tips on doing this correctly and quickly and then
trying again in a few days.  The sample will be used for a coritsol test.
My 22mo son is 47.3lbs and ~<39" tall.

Thanks so much for any advice or pointers to articles/contacts you can
offer.

-Josie
