Frenectomy: Orthodontics Work on my 9 year Old

Hi,

My son had a cross bite which was corrected with an appliance which expanded
his upper jaw.  His front four teeth have been banded together for about a
year and the orthodontist wants to have a "Maxillary Labial Frenectomy and
sever the interproximal attachment leading to palatal attachment" done.  We
have an appointment with a periodontist next Thursday for an evaluation.  As I
undertsand it they give him novicane and cut out some tissue between his two
front teeth.

My question is has anyone had this done with there kid before, was it painful
and is there anyway I can tell if it really needs to be done or is it just
cosmetic.  I don’t want to have him have to through this if not necessary.

Thanks

Keep Your Kids Healthy. (Warning to Parents)

According to the latest studies, ASPARTAME, a commonly-used substance on
the market today could be causing the world’s population (including
children) to develop more
brain tumors. A noted brain researcher from Washington University Medical
School has published a study (NOV. 96) in a respected peer-reviewed
medical journal to this effect.

More information is published on our website, regarding this most
disturbing new trend. Please take a look and see why our warnings have
been aired (and repeated) on CNN, TODAY Show, HARD COPY, 60-Minutes and
virtually every major news network in the country, in the past 5 weeks.

Aspartame is the singularly most dangerous substance in our food supply
today, based on the supporting data in the files of our organization —
Aspartame Consumer Safety Network. Check it out.

Happy New Year,

Tylenol for teething pain?

Our pediatrician recommended children’s tylenol
for teething pain (for 4 month old). Any thoughts
about using pain medication for that?

Thanks, Juha

Re: Help, screaming infant in car

Some suggestions:

1.Checked the carseat to see if there’s something poking him.

2.Have you re-adjusted the straps lately? Maybe they’re too tight.

3.Check to make sure the seat is at a comfortable angle. Sometimes
babies will cry because they like to sit up more, or recline more.

4.Maybe borrow a friend’s carseat to see if it’s just yours, or if he
hates carseats in general.

I’m just thinking of things that may be wrong with the seat itself, and
causing your baby some discomfort. If he is one of those "hate to be
strapped down" types, I’m afraid I can’t be of much help.

Just a comment, though. Be careful about wearing earplugs while
driving… especially if they also block out traffic noises. Hearing a
horn or screeching noise might help you to avoid an accident; if you
can’t hear it, it could make driving a bit more risky. (And, I don’t
know about earplugs per se, but I do know that some states have laws
about wearing walkman-type headphones while driving.)

Re: Alzheimer's Disease — An Apology

I need to apologize for a message that accidentally got posted here.  I
responded to a question about Alzheimer’s Disease on misc.health that I
found through a DejaNews search.  I did not realize that person had several
un-related newsgroups in the header.  I am so sorry; I would never
intentionally post here about Alzheimer’s.  I will not post from DejaNews
again, and it might be a good idea if I don’t post to any groups for a
while until I learn how to do it right.  Again, I’m sorry.

RE: solids and formula intake

My 8 month old intakes approx 16 oz of solids and approx 40 oz of formula.
He is at a normal body weight, therefore the peditration states that
there is no need to worry about the intake as long as no health problems
occur.  Some larger children require more solids and formula to accomidate
their body weight and structure along with how much activity the child
spends during the day.  Good Luck

brushing teeth

I can’t seem to have my 20 month old son to love to brush his teeth.  I
tried tricks like letting him brushing mine while I brush his, making
fun noise when I brush his teeth, etc, but they only work for 2 seconds.
After those 2 seconds, he would close his mouth and that is it.  Any one
has a great experience to teach me?  Thanks a lot.
